Welcome and introduction
Amy Hazelby has seven years of teaching experience in schools and colleges, bringing a wealth of knowledge to her role as a science teacher. Her background as a college teacher has enabled her to work with students of all age ranges, complemented by her experience as an industry professional. This diverse expertise has led to her current position as the KS5 lead in Applied Sciences and Forensics. Additionally, she serves as the deputy of the ENTHUSE partnership, further demonstrating her commitment to educational excellence and leadership in the science community. Her multifaceted experience ensures a rich, engaging learning environment for her students.
Objectives

- Explore creative strategies to incorporate STEM career learning into your curriculum. This includes connecting classroom content with real-world STEM applications, using project-based learning, inviting industry professionals, and leveraging technology and resources.
- Understand how extracurricular activities, like clubs and competitions, enhance STEM career learning by providing hands-on experience, fostering teamwork and innovation, and inspiring students to pursue STEM careers through showcasing their skills in competitive settings.
Outline
Session 1 – Develop an understanding of the term ‘STEM career learning’ [120 mins]
Gain a comprehensive understanding of STEM career learning, including its significance in preparing students for future careers and the various pathways into STEM fields.
In this session, we will:
- Develop an understanding of the term ‘STEM career learning’
- Discover how to create space within your curriculum for students to be curious about careers and the range of further study routes available to them
- Develop an understanding of workforce needs in relation to STEM careers
Session 2 – CPD Course Title – Session Title [90 mins]
Explore creative strategies to incorporate STEM career learning into your curriculum. This includes connecting classroom content with real-world STEM applications, using project-based learning, inviting industry professionals, and leveraging technology and resources.
In this session we will:
- Explore how schools can access engagement with STEM Professionals
- Develop curriculum materials linking classroom learning to real-world applications and incorporate project-based learning.
Session 3 – CPD Course Title – Session Title [90 mins]
Understand how extracurricular activities, like clubs and competitions, enhance STEM career learning by providing hands-on experience, fostering teamwork and innovation, and inspiring students to pursue STEM careers through showcasing their skills.
In this session we will:
- Explore how students can get involved in Hands-on Experience including practical projects and activities
- Research design challenges and STEM competitions which can encourage innovation and creativity for students
- Explore how to arrange careers provision for SEND students
