On Friday, March 7th, nearly 500 children aged 3–7 from schools across Portsmouth came together at St Mary’s Church in Fratton for the Key Stage 1 Science Fair 2025—a joyful, hands-on celebration of STEM learning that marked the conclusion of the ENTHUSE Portsmouth programme and the start of British Science Week.
Organised by STEMunity and made possible through the generous support of volunteers, STEM Ambassadors, and funding partners, the event offered immersive activities that brought science to life—everything from “Ocean in a Tube” experiments to marine exploration and environmental problem-solving challenges. Each child even received a take-home LEGO set, donated by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), to continue their STEM learning journey beyond the classroom.
The fair wasn’t just about fun—it showcased the incredible impact of two years of teacher development, community engagement, and creative science communication. Children expressed awe and pride in their discoveries, while teachers praised the enthusiasm and deep engagement seen throughout the day. It was a celebration not only of science, but of community, equity, and imagination.
“The children were captivated by the ocean-themed activities and left inspired, curious, and proud of their test tube experiments,” one teacher shared.
This event reflects STEMunity’s mission: to spark curiosity, raise aspirations, and build the STEM capital of Portsmouth’s youngest minds.
With the ENTHUSE programme now drawing to a close, the incredible momentum we’ve built cannot stop here. The Key Stage 1 Science Fair has proven just how impactful early STEM experiences can be—igniting curiosity, building confidence, and planting the seeds of future careers in science, engineering, and technology.
To keep this magic alive and to grow it even further, we are seeking forward-thinking industry partners who believe in the power of early education and equity in opportunity.
By investing in this event, you’re not just supporting a single day of learning—you’re helping shape the future of Portsmouth’s youngest learners. Your support enables us to:
