We have been busy at STEM Academy North developing our STEM careers workshops in South Yorkshire. We have started to film three video workshops that have been developed with Ibstock Brick, Gulliver’s Valley and Lincoln Electric. These are all fantastic STEM industries with a huge range of careers and opportunities. Open House Pictures filmed a set of workshops at Nexus studio and were presented by the fantastic Ruth Amos. Open House Pictures will visit each industry site and capture the STEM learning and career opportunities.

Ruth Amos is an award-winning British Inventor, Presenter, and Professional Speaker. Ruth spent the day filming the three fantastic workshops and came armed with her glue gun, spray paint, and tools ready to create and make. The session was so much fun, full of chocolate and the set looked fantastic. We cannot wait for you to see the final workshops and try these in your classrooms and at home.

Wales High School has been partnered with Ibstock Brick at their Forticrete site in Sheffield. A group of Y9 students has been working to develop a fantastic edible concrete workshop that links to the curriculum. This activity can be done in the classroom or at home and the best part is that you can eat it afterward! Ibstock Brick visited the students at Wales High School and the students were lucky enough to visit the site and learn about what engineers do every day.

Handsworth Grange Community Sports College has been working with Gulliver’s Valley to develop a wonderful workshop all about rollercoasters. Staff at Handsworth Grange went to visit the Gulliver’s site and the students worked hard in their STEM club to develop a marble run activity.

Lincoln Electric has developed a chocolate welding activity with Jorden Birch and put on some fantastic Women in Welding events where female welding ambassadors showed a group of female students how to weld and use the virtual welders. Lincoln Electric has a fantastic chocolate welding workshop that allows young people to make a range of seriously strong structures.
